I am an active woman and most people think of me as a clean eater with no reason to detox. However, my husband is just the opposite, but things are changing for him, because he just turned 50 and wants to live a long and healthy life. Consequently, we have been watching numerous documentaries on food and health. That’s what brings me to the idea of a juice fast. I want to support my husband in his journey to a new found healthy lifestyle.
So what is it like for me to fast? Difficult. We are in day two of our seven day juice fast. The first morning was no problem. The excitement of a drastic change kept the hunger at bay, but by the afternoon, that excitement wore off. I tried to keep busy, but honestly, all I could think about was food. I usually eat around 3000 calories a day, more that the average person. I run around 50 miles a week so the calories are necessary to keep my energy levels up. This week I have taken a break from running. This is also a first for me. I have been running for over five years and never rest for more than two days in a row.
I am anxious to feel the developments of this fast. I know it will be hard, but like my friend Jennifer said,
“it’s more mental than it is physical – like the 2nd half of a 50 mile race – so focus on every lesson you’ve learned out there on the pavement and trail. Anything you can do to stay on top of your mood is going to help you succeed.”
So that’s exactly what I am going to do.
