Superbowl Cake

This is Ricky and my first collaboration cake.  Use your favorite, sturdy cake recipe.  We baked two sheet cakes and one football for this design. (We used a Wilton Football cake pan)  I used my favorite buttercream for the filling and the top coat to keep the fondant in place.

To build the cake, bake off the cakes and let them cool.  Frost the sheet cakes and the football.  Roll out your fondant and cover the football, we use Satin Ice.  For the lace on the football, roll out white fondant and use a cutter to make the laces.

Ricky used chocolate dough for the referee and the goal posts.  First he shaped some copper wire for the figures.  Then he molded the chocolate dough the to frames.  He used edible pens for the details on the referee.
